As a parent, there’s nothing quite like witnessing the growth and uniqueness of each of your children. Recently, I had tested a “new to me” photography adventure that aimed to capture the essence of my two boys, despite their six-year age gap. This session was a celebration of my youngest son’s six-month milestone and an opportunity to try out a trending photography style known as “personality portraits.” Set in the picturesque Lake Arts Studio, we had the perfect canvas to showcase the beauty, charm, and individuality of my children, free from distracting elements.
Photography has the remarkable power to capture not just the faces but the very souls of its subjects. My goal for these portraits were to go beyond traditional portraits and delve into the world of “personality portraits.” These unique photos, often in black and white, focus on showcasing a child’s individuality and charm by eliminating any distractions from the background. The studio’s serene and unadorned backdrop allowed my boys to take center stage. This clean and simple canvas was the perfect backdrop to highlight their personalities, expressions, and unique features. It was all about them, unencumbered by any distractions.

The session was not just about capturing their physical features but also celebrating my youngest son’s six-month milestone. Each gurgle, gummy grin, and thoughtful expression was beautifully immortalized in these photos. The journey from babyhood to childhood is a remarkable one, and it’s a privilege getting to document my own sweet boys. Despite the age gap, my boys are distinct individuals with their own unique traits and charms. The personality portraits captured their essence—my eldest’s silly and charming spirit and my youngest’s endearing innocence. These portraits are a testament to their individuality and the love that binds them together.
