As the leaves begin to don their vibrant autumn hues and the festive spirit of the holidays fills the air, that can only mean one thing around here: it’s time for my annual Cleveland Mini Sessions! This year’s sessions were nothing short of magical, with the loyal support of past families & delightful weather.
My annual mini sessions wouldn’t be the same without my cherished families, many of whom return year after year to capture the changing seasons and family milestones. Their loyalty warms my heart and inspires me to create new, memorable moments that last a lifetime. It’s a testament to the power of photography to document the passage of time and the growth of families.
This year, we were incredibly fortunate to have perfect weather on both days of the mini sessions. The picturesque parks served as an ideal backdrop for the warm and inviting ambiance of fall, and the excitement of the upcoming holiday season. The gentle autumn breeze, the golden sun, and the colorful foliage all contributed to a truly magical atmosphere, which translated into stunning photographs.

The beauty of family photography lies in capturing the essence of your loved ones in moments that you can cherish forever. Recently, during this Vermilion family photography session, I had the pleasure of photographing a delightful family with tween boys and their parents in the picturesque setting of Vermilion at a Lake Erie beach. The objective was clear: capture the warmth of golden hour, the dreamy golden hues, and the serene beauty of the beach backdrop. As the sun dipped below the horizon, we embraced the magical transition from sunset to blue hour, creating a rich tapestry of images that truly encapsulated the family’s spirit.

Timing is everything in photography, and capturing the family during golden hour was a dream come true. The soft, warm, and golden hues bathed the beach in a captivating light, creating a backdrop that was as magical as it was serene. The result was a series of photographs that not only captured the family’s physical beauty but also radiated the warmth and love they shared. As the sun began its descent below the horizon, we were blessed with a breathtaking sunset that painted the sky in a multitude of colors. The family’s laughter and the sound of the waves provided a symphony to this visual spectacle. The transition from sunset to the blue hour presented a different kind of beauty—the sky adorned with a soft, indigo glow that cast a subtle, dreamy light on the portraits.
Understanding the purpose of a family’s portrait session is crucial in delivering a result that truly resonates with them. This family intended to use their portraits for a variety of purposes, including updating their picture frames around their home. This knowledge guided our choices during the session, ensuring that the images would be versatile and suited to their intended uses.

One of the greatest joys of being a family photographer is the opportunity to watch families grow and capture the beautiful moments that unfold as children grow up. Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a lovely family in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and what made this session truly special was that I had photographed them before, witnessing their families growth over the years. This time, I had the delight of capturing all three of the children, all four years old and under, as they played, laughed, and grew right in front of my lens.
The session took place in their front yard, allowing them to feel comfortable and at ease in their home environment. We played games of tag and hide & seek to capture those priceless genuine smiles, and with snack breaks in between portraits, the little ones had a blast, making it feel more like playtime than a portrait session.
The choice of holding the photo session in the family’s front yard was an excellent decision. The children felt at ease in their own environment, which made all the difference in capturing their true personalities and the candid moments that make family portraits so special. With the comforts of home around them, they were free to be themselves. To create genuine smiles and capture the authentic essence of the children, we engaged in spirited games of tag and hide & seek. The excitement and laughter that filled the air were truly infectious, and it was an absolute joy to witness their unfiltered happiness. These moments are the ones that parents treasure, and it’s an honor to freeze them in time through photography.

As a family photographer, there is nothing more rewarding than watching a family grow and being part of their journey. Capturing these moments with three little kids full of life was a true privilege. Every smile and every moment of play, added to the story of their family, a story that will be cherished for generations to come.
