Embracing the arrival of a newborn transcends mere celebration. From the ethereal celebration of a baby shower to the resounding proclamation of a birth announcement, each gesture is an ode to life’s most precious treasures. As a seasoned newborn photographer, I’ve witnessed the transformative power of capturing these exquisite moments in their purest form. Today, we will indulge in the artistry of creating bespoke baby shower invitations and birth announcements alongside a visionary stationery artist, with sophistication and luxury into every aspect of welcoming your newest family member.

Interview With Meg Morrow Design

Can you tell us a little about yourself and your journey as a stationery artist?

My name is Meg Morrow and I am a wedding stationer located just outside of Cleveland, Ohio. I design wedding invitations, day-of paper and other fun paper goods for weddings and events. I started my business over 10 years ago when planning my own wedding and fell in love with designing all my stationery details. I offer luxury wedding and event invitations through both an online collection as well as custom design for couples and hostesses looking for a fresh take on traditional stationery.

What advice do you have for new parents when selecting baby shower invitations and birth announcements?

I’m always a fan of a good monogram! I think that choosing an invitation, whether pre-designed or custom, that allows you to customize with the baby’s monogram makes everything feel very personalized and special. Plus it’s something you can use on other items – think embroidered blankets, nursery signs, etc. Outside of a monogram, for showers, I always recommend going through a stationer that can provide the total package for your event. From invitations, to signage for the day, to cocktail napkins that match. Guests really notice when the event design is cohesive down to the very small detail. Plus it makes it much easier on you or the host of the event.

Where do you suggest parents draw inspiration from when creating unique and personalized invitations/announcements?

Consider what your story may be. Who are you two as a couple and what values do you have as a family? Also, consider your lifestyle and pick something that guests or recipients will know is very “you” when they open it. No need to create a “brand” for this little one but if they had their own signature colors I wouldn’t be opposed 😉

Are there specific baby shower invitations or birth announcement trends you love seeing right now?

I think very sweet and precious designs with small details, focusing on a beautiful photo of your little one is my favorite for an announcement. They are the star of the show so don’t be afraid to let the photo speak for itself. I’m also loving delicate floral patterns, nothing too bold, and of course softer color palettes. Lately, we have seen a huge trend in using QR codes for rsvps. I’m definitely not against this but I try to incorporate the QR code in a way that doesn’t take from the design of the invitation. A small separate card is always my go-to.

What are some must haves to include on a baby shower invitation or a birth announcement?

Don’t forget to have your guests rsvp in enough time for you to give guest counts to your vendors. You want the planning process to go as smoothly as possible and having guests rsvp early helps you to check things off your list with little stress!

Any tips for parents when it comes to sending out their baby shower invitations and birth announcements?

Definitely double-check your addresses and make sure you have the correct postage. This is true for all invitations and announcements. The USPS constantly changes postal rates and your invitation or announcement may require extra postage because of size or shape. It’s always best to visit your local post office and have them weigh and measure your assembled envelope before you order postage. That way you know exactly how much you will need and there will not be any surprises! Also, if you want your envelopes to stay as pristine as possible during mailing, ask if they will “hand cancel” them for you. This will keep them away from damaging machines!

What is the etiquette for sending thank you cards after a baby shower?

Don’t forget to send them! I am traditional and always believe a hand written note is best over a text or email. It just shows you made the extra effort. Thank yous should be sent within a month of the shower for baby showers. Also, please no asking your guests to fill out their own envelopes at the shower (cringe!)

Welcoming a new baby into the world is a joyous occasion filled with love and excitement. By working with a newborn photographer and a talented stationery artist, you can create custom invitations and announcements that perfectly capture the magic of this special time. From selecting the perfect design to sending them out to friends and family, every step of the process is an opportunity to make memories that will last a lifetime.

Studio vs In Home Session by a Cleveland Newborn Photographer

As a Cleveland Newborn Photographer, I understand the importance of capturing those precious early moments of your little one’s life. When it comes to choosing between a studio vs in home session, there are several factors to consider. Let’s explore the pros and cons of each option, to help you make the best decision for your family.

Studio Sessions: Embracing Controlled Environment

Pros:

  1. Controlled Environment: One of the main advantages of a studio session is the controlled environment it offers. With an all white background, it’s incredibly hard to take a bad picture! The lighting is always beautiful and will make every photo gorgeous!
  2. Limited Distractions: If you will have young children in the portraits, it can be beneficial to take your newborn portraits at a studio where the distractions are limited. No toys, television or every day life can keep their attention elsewhere.
  3. No Cleaning Required: Although I don’t require you to clean your home for an in home newborn session, I know it can be overwhelming thinking you need to clean up before your session. With a studio session, you can just pack up what you need and leave the mess at home.

Cons:

  1. Less Personalized: Some families may find that the studio setting lacks the personal touch and familiarity of their own home.
  2. Travel Required: Depending on the location of the studio, you may need to factor in travel time and logistics, especially during those early days with a newborn.

In-Home Session: Embracing Familiar Surroundings

Pros:

  1. Comfort and Convenience: This is a big pro to having an in home session, as you can avoid leaving the house for your session. It gives you more time to prepare, all of your essential items are within arms reach and if you have siblings joining your session, they can easily take breaks when needed.
  2. Variety in Backgrounds: Usually during an in home session, I will shoot in the nursery, master bedroom, and occasionally in the living room or outside. However, I will go wherever the light is best. Sometimes this can be a hallway, front door or the dining room. But I try my best to always start in the nursery that I know you spent hours planning out all those perfect details!
  3. More Relaxed Posing: This requires very simple, basic posing and leads to more of a lifestyle look for the images. Plus, you can include your family pets this way as well!

Cons:

  1. Limited Control: While natural light can be stunning, it’s also unpredictable. We may need to work with the available light in your home, which could pose challenges depending on the time of day and the rooms we hoped to photograph in.
  2. Cleaning: As I mentioned before, I don’t require you to do a deep clean of your home before your session. But do encourage a quick tidy up of removing toys and clutter out of the way. In those unpredictable early days, I can understand tidying up being the last thing on your mind!

Whether you opt for a studio vs in home newborn photography session, the most important thing is to choose an environment where you and your baby feel comfortable and relaxed. As a Cleveland Newborn Photographer, I am committed to capturing timeless images that reflect the unique personality of your family, regardless of the setting. If you’re still unsure which option is right for you, don’t hesitate to reach out, I’m happy to help guide you through the decision-making process!

There’s something truly magical about watching a family expand and evolve over the years. Recently, I had the honor of photographing a family for the second time at the Lake Arts Studio, welcoming their newest addition, a precious little girl, to the world. With two sweet little girls now filling their home with love, capturing their growing family was a delightful experience. Their session was held at Lake Arts Studio, bathed in natural light and overlooking Lake Erie, provided the perfect backdrop for this Cleveland newborn photography session.

Revisiting a family for a second newborn portrait session is like rekindling a beautiful love story. It’s a testament to the enduring bond between a photographer and their loyal families, and I was overjoyed to be part of this chapter in their lives. Welcoming a new baby into the family is a special moment, and I was determined to capture it in all its radiant beauty.

One of the keys to a successful newborn portrait session is to work around the baby’s schedule. We made sure to accommodate feedings, nap times, and any other needs the newborn had. This not only ensured a happy and cooperative baby but also created a calm and relaxed atmosphere in the studio. The addition of a toddler to the family adds a unique dimension to the portrait session. Toddlers are known for their unpredictable behavior, but with patience and understanding, we were able to engage and entertain older sis, making her feel like an important part of the session. Her playful presence added an element of authenticity to the photographs, capturing the beautiful connection between the two sisters.

Lake Arts Studio proved to be the perfect setting for this portrait session. The studio’s bright, white interior, flooded with natural light from large windows overlooking Lake Erie, created a serene and heavenly atmosphere. The soft, diffused light accentuated the delicate features of the newborn and cast a soft glow on the family, making the photos truly captivating. The studio, with its tranquil ambiance and the family’s affectionate bond, made every click of the camera feel like an intimate celebration of their growing love.

Bringing a new life into the world is a momentous occasion and a time of joy, love, and anticipation. When you add to that the excitement of a recent engagement, (you can read about it from their maternity session here!) you have a family that’s embracing an entire chapter of new beginnings!

These new parents welcomed me into their home that they had moved into not too long ago. The nursery was cozy, light-filled & adorned in various shades of pink. The soft, natural light streaming in through the windows painted a perfect canvas, enhancing the beauty of this precious chapter in their lives. In the nursery, amidst the pink, we captured more than just photographs. We documented the warmth, love, and hope that new parents feel as they begin a beautiful chapter of their lives.

As a photographer, the opportunity to capture the love between new parents and their baby is truly heartwarming. With gentle guidance and patience, we were able to freeze in time the first touches, the soft whispers, and the loving glances between mom & dad and their baby girl.

There’s something undeniably special about welcoming a newborn into the world and documenting those early moments as a family. On a warm summer day, in the comfort of their home, I had the privilege of reuniting with this family. This in home newborn session was filled with love and the joy of capturing the newest addition to their family.

As a photographer, there’s no greater honor than being invited back to capture the milestones of a family’s journey through life. I had first met this family a few years ago when mama was pregnant with their daughter. Now, they welcomed their newest member & I was thrilled to be there to document this next part of their story once again!

The decision to hold their newborn portrait session in the cozy embrace of their own home was a deliberate & heartwarming choice. Not only does an in-home photoshoot provide a relaxed and familiar atmosphere for everyone involved, but it also allows us to truly capture the essence of their family dynamics. The backdrop of Dad’s previously grandparents home (and now their home), with all its memories and sentimental value, added an extra layer of depth to the photos.

From the soft, natural light streaming through windows to the loving interactions between family members, every detail of this session played a part in creating timeless images that this family will treasure for generations to come.
